Noodles with celery

I miss crochet! But I promise I will post some of the things I've been doing :D
yeeeah, meanwhile a recipe:

Something quick and Beto-Friendly but also Veggie friendly. (But if you don't even eat flour, this may not be for you!):)

-A cup of pasta (very thin - noodle-like)
- 2 red tomatoes
- half an onion
- salt
- a slice of garlic
-  half a glass of water
- oil
- 1 1/2 cup of chopped celery

1. Fry the pasta with the oil until it starts smelling delicious and turns into a nice light tan. (MOVE repeatedly, otherwise it burns and turns brown!)
2. While frying, put the tomatoes, onion, garlic and salt in the mixer, pour the water and mix.
3. When the noodles are tanned and have been fried, pour the mix into it. (You should hear a lovely PSSHHHHH)
4. Mix once again and boil. (Cover it)
5. Put the celery to boil with the soup.
6. Taste to check salt.
Done!
:)

------

Beto JAMÁS come vegetales, y menos crudos. Si acaso sólo come champiñones, chícharos, cebolla y pimiento verde.

----

Ok. Normally I would write about corny stuff on another blog and not on my DIY blog, but hey, you have to have the basics so you know exactly why I might start posting on certain things.
Beto is my boyfriend, we've been together for 3 and a half years and 1 and a half years living together under the same roof.
Since I work from home, I dedicate my noons to cooking our meals and I've gotten to meet Beto's need first-hand.
He NEVER eats veggies, only mushrooms, green pepper, onion and peas. Nothing else. He NEVER eats ANY kind of dressing, forget about mustard, mayonaise, ketchup, name it. So, well I being an animal-friendly-carnivore-eat-your-veggies kind of person I have struggled a lot.
Every time I cook is like I have to create a way to present veggies in a non-veggie way, and it is hard.
So, well, I decided to label and tag the recipes I cook for Beto as "beto-friendly" so whenever you read any recipe which is "beto-friendly" it means any man who hates veggies can enjoy. ;)

Champion's breakfast.

If it's up to me to decide whether I prefer sweet or salty for breakfast, it will always be sweet for me. (I always think that morning is the best time to eat sweets, because you'll eventually burn calories throughout the day, rather than eating sweets at night and letting your body save up fats for the next Glacial Age)

So, I woke up today with the urge to cook. I always have cereal and bananas for breakfast, I'm such a lazy-morning-person. But there are days on which I just have to have something delicious, slow-cooked and well... soul-food-ish.

So, here's my recipe for one of my breakfast favorites: French Toast, Milk and Vanilla, and the right way to wash strawberries (and add as dressing for my french toasts).

------

1. French Toast / Pan Francés

Ingredients

1 egg
Half a glass of milk
3 pieces of commercial bread.
 * These measures are for 3 pieces of bread*

Butter (plenty)
Vanilla extract

Ingredientes

1 huevo
Medio vaso de leche
3 piezas de pan de caja
*Medidas para 3 piezas de pan de caja*

Mantequilla (bastante)
Extracto de vainilla

1. Slice the pieces of bread in half (as a matter of presentation)
2. Mix the milk, the egg (with yolks included) and the vanilla extract in a bowl and mix with fork until you get a coffe-and-milk-colored mix.
3. Soak each slice of bread into the mix.
4. Heat up a pan and add a spoon of butter so it melts.
5. Once the butter is melted up, add the soaked slices of bread in the pan.
6. Watch the slices so they don't burn!
7. Turn the slices on to the "un-cooked" side.
8. Serve!

7. Voltea el pan en el sartén.
8. Sirve! :)

Now, the basics of milk + vanilla (deliciooous if you eat sweets for breakfast).

1. Pour the amount of milk you'd like to drink. It can be regular, soy, non-fat, whatever.
2. Pour vanilla extract (just half a tablespoon will do) in to the milk.
3. Add sugar.
4. Mix.
5. Voilà!

3. Añade azúcar.
4. Mezcla.
5. Voilà!

And now, the correct way to wash strawberries without worrying to catch any nasty brain-diseases or whatever from this delicious fruit:

1. Wash the strawberries with a soap and water solution WITH YOUR FINGERS. Feel the fruit and rub it.
2. Rinse throughly with running water.
3. Take of the little leaves and any of the green on the strawberry while rinsing it under running water.
4. Chop the top part of the strawberry (bacteria deposit) before eating.

If you are a sweet sucker like me, just sprinkle sugar (Splenda works fav as well) or add maple honey on your breakfast. YUM YUM.There you go, champion's breakfast (or at least one of my favs :) ) Hope you enjoyed! Eat well!

Lula's lentil soup

(Each of these posts will be related to slow-food, which is a modern view on food. Slow-cooked meals are way healthier than the common "fast-foods", but think about it: I'm recognized for being impatient, and this "slow-food" is actually not that slow, give it a go!) Introducing to you: Lula's lentil Soup. Maybe it has its origins in Brasilian cuisine (they mix rice and beans on a dry basis A LOT), but it came to my attention because it's one of my sister's inventions and favorites, and even my granny (a delicious baker) gave it two thumbs up. My sister name is Lula, btw.

1. Lula Lentil Soup
Time of preparation: 20 minutes

Ingredients (6 portions):

1 cup of clean lentils
1 cup of white or brown rice
A half onion sliced up
A half garlic slice (WHOLE, do not slice it)
Salt

*Add 1 1/2 cup of water for each cup of rice and lentils.

1. Put the water on a bowl, put the onion, garlic and salt together until the water boils.

2. Once the water is boiling, pour the lentils and rice in the bowl. Mix with a spoon and let it sit while it boils again.

3. CHECK CONSTANTLY. Rice and Lentils tend to DRY up the water in the bowl. Re-fill with purified water for 2 or 3 times until both the rice and lentil grains are cooked and soft on your mouth.

4. Although it may seem like an art, once the grains are cooked, DO NOT pour anymore water, keep boiling until all of the water has dried from the bowl. Notice in the picture how, if we move the grains with a spoon, there is still water underneath. All water has to dry before we are officially done. Lower the flame and keep cookin'!

5. Put special attention on the bowl  so that the rice does not stick to the bottom of the bowl. Check for any water left underneath, if everything is moist but not wet, then you're ready to turn the flame off. And you're set!

Hope you like this little recipe from my sister :)

------
