It's been ages since I posted, but I took some pictures last Tejercito meeting and wanted to share them with you. It's unbelievable what has been achieved by the loyal Tejercito girls in Guadalajara. :) (and by those in Monterrey who gladly keep on without the meetings, thank you girls!) I'm so in love with the project and some true good friendships have grown from crocheting together.

We girls should unite and use all our strenghts to invest in our societies. This is the least we can do, and I'm happy we crochet with a purpose.

Knit for charity!

Ok, so I'm kinda back. A little ashamed to take this long to write a new entry, but belive me, thanks to God and internet courses, my little photography business has been kicking and living and gets me bee-busy all day long, so well... Sorry! :)
(that may be the reason why not so many people read this blog -- just thinking out loud!)

So, this past weekend I decided to give myself a little treat and I manicured and pedicured and bought the latest issue of CROCHET-Today! And it was so surprising to find 2 projects with the same objective as Tejercito: KNIT FOR CHARITY!
:)

One is Knit-A-Square, a very awesome international project. You can decide to participate by just simply knitting granny squares for blankets and send them to SOUTH AFRICA! That's right! And why knit blankets for kids in South Africa if there's so hot in there? Wrong. South Africa is on the southern hemisphere, south south of Africa, which means cold winters-- so, why not give southafrican children a little help with a cozy hand-made blanket? :) You will find more information on the webpage and the exact measures and address to make your part.

The other project (which I couldn't find online) is heartbreaking but also heatwarming at the same time. Africa (once again) is the continent with the highest child mortality rate. Children die by the tons before reaching the age of 5 years. So, a group of international ladies decided to create a project on which they knit little caps for children in Ethiopia. Caps help keep little children warm, even in hot countries, these little handmade treats help diminish the mortality rates by just keeping little lovely heads warm. :)

We're in October, and Tejercito is flowing but still going a little slower than expected. Nevertheless, we shall make it work and by the end of this year I hope it reaches at least 50 children in Guadalajara and Monterrey. By reading the projects I tell you about, I got inspired and I've decided to launch Tejercito in Latin America.
You'll see. Let's dream big.

Tejército Guadalajara

Ayer fue nuestra 4 reunión en Guadalajara. Asaltamos con estambres, agujas, ganchos y tablas el 22CAFÉ22 de la calle Libertad. :) Disfrutamos de las canoas, los veintidós, la plática sobre telenovelas (las 3 Marías de Thalía incluídas) y la nueva adhesión de nuestro primer fan. :) Quien amablemente nos patrocinó toda la comida, GRACIAS TOÑO @YosoyTono!

Yesterday was Tejercito Guadalajara's 4th meeting. We basically invaded the 22cafe22 in Libertad street, need Chapultepec (touristic-bohemian-indie zone) in Guadalajara. Of course we knit, but we also chit-chat, laugh and discover things about each other. Tejercito in Guadalajara is becoming a close group, and I love it. :) We have even started to have FANS! Our first fan Toño kindly endorsed our meal! :) Thanks bb-boy! :)


A kiss to everyone that follows the project. I know that hard work, good laughter and company will take us closer to our objective!

Tejército Guadalajara

¿Recuerdan el proyecto de Tejército del cual les escribí hace varios posts? Bueno, lo había tenido en el olvido una vez más, hasta que viendo un episodio de "The Secret Millionaire" de la BBC se me prendió el foco y tuve la idea de irme cada miércoles a sentar en algún café tapatío con un cártel que dijera "TEJO POR UNA CAUSA, ÚNETE!" Y así invitar a más personas a unirse al tejido. También, demasiado tarde se me ocurrió abrir una cuenta en twitter @tejercito para continuar informando y así difundir de mejor manera lo que éste proyecto pretendía, pero ya enmendé mi error!


El primer miércoles en Guadalajara que nos reunimos se llevó a cabo en el café Chop de Ave. México, y el día de ayer organizamos el #miercolesdetejercito (hashtag de la referencia al proyecto y a los días de reunión) en La Tetería. 


Grata va siendo la sorpresa de que ya llevamos 5-6 personas en Guadalajara tejiendo en pro de los niños, y ayer justo se nos unieron 2 chavos más :) Muy contenta honestamente por la respuesta, y ojalá la gente se sienta motivada a aprender a tejer, y así también colaborar con un pequeño regalo para los niños de albergues en Navidad. :)

Remember about project "Tejercito" that I wrote you about some posts ago? Well, I had it almost forgotten but recided to re-vamp it thanks to an inspiration obtained from BBC's "The Secret Millionaire". So, I decided to visit each wednesday a different coffee house in Guadalajara and sit with a big poster announcing that I was crocheting for a cause, and so until now (this week we had our 2nd Tejercito meeting) we already have 5-6 crocheters involved in the cause! :) SO HAPPY.

Tejército 2010

TEJÉRCITO has been on the blue for a while, but it is time we take it back in our hands. :) First I'll let you know about the project, and then I'll post on the advances of it. :) Please, feel free to forward it.

PROJECT "TEJÉRCITO 2010" (Literal translation: KNIT ARMY 2010)

The art of knitting and crochet have walked hand in hand with women's history along centuries and centuries. The diverse and multiple techniques used to knit and create sweaters, scarves, toys, garments and slippers have been taught and learned from our grandmothers and mothers. Knitting has always symbolized maternal love, dedication and commitment.
In Mexico, there is a large number of kids living in solitude terminal or dangerous sicknesses or abandoned in streets being target of hunger, prostitution and oblivion. 
Through "TEJÉRCITO 2010" I invite women of all ages to unite and learn the art of knitting and crochet for a cause: Mexican kids. In a first phase: we will knit and/or crochet little yarn dolls that serve as toys to kids that live in hospitals battling diseases, and in our second phase: we will knit scarves, gloves and sweaters so that in winter, Mexican kids have some garment made with love specially for them.
It will be TEJÉRCITO's mission to acquire funds and yarn so that women in Monterrey and Guadalajara learn to knit for the children.
This project WILL NOT generate any income whatsoever and its only goal is to share smiles to those who need maternal kindness the most.

Although this project is intended for Mexican women, if you live abroad and want to collaborate, please join by KNITTING OR CROCHETING the prototype doll we include. TEJÉRCITO ha estado en el olvido por un rato, pero es hora de que re-tomemos la marcha. :) Primero postearé sobre el proyecto, y luego iré posteando los avances que llevamos hasta el día de hoy. :) Siéntete libre de darle FORWARD a tus conocid@s.


PROYECTO: “TEJÉRCITO 2010”

El arte del tejido y el crochet han acompañado la vida de las mujeres por muchísimos siglos. Las diversas técnicas que se utilizan para confeccionar suéteres, bufandas, juguetes, prendas y pantuflas, las hemos aprendido de mano de nuestras madres y abuelas. El tejido siempre ha simbolizado el amor maternal, la dedicación y entrega.
En México, existe un número considerable de niños viviendo en soledad alguna enfermedad, en las calles, abandonados y en situaciones de riesgo; algunas veces acompañados de sus padres, y en muchos casos: sin alguno de ellos.
Convoco a través de TEJÉRCITO a las mujeres de todas las edades a unirse y aprender el arte del tejido para una causa en particular: los niños. En una primera etapa: tejer muñecos de estambre que sirvan como juguetes para los niños internados en hospitales, y en la segunda etapa, tejer prendas como bufandas, guantes, suéteres para que en invierno niños que viven en la calle tengan alguna prenda hecha con amor que los cuide del frío.
Será la misión del Tejército buscar los medios para que la sociedad colabore en especie (estambre e hilos) para enseñar a más mujeres de Monterrey y Guadalajara a tejer por los niños.
Este proyecto NO pretende generar ingresos, y nace con la única vocación de regalar sonrisas a quienes más necesitan una muestra de afecto maternal.


¿CÓMO COLABORO?

1: Puedes colaborar tejiendo o integrándote a los clubes de tejido, es importante que si te unes, lleves contigo 2 estambres para tejer y comenzar a hacer muñecos de estambre.
2. Puedes colaborar donando estambre de cualquier calidad y grosor en Monterrey y Guadalajara. :)
